About Me

Hi! I’m Amanda and this is my blog. In case it isn’t obvious by the title above, this is where you can read about my life and Tail Wagging adventures as a professional dog walker, pet sitter, and dog mom to Zuma.

I grew up in a Boston suburb and had a love of all animals from an early age. My favorite family vacations and birthdays always involved trips to a zoo or aquarium. So it’s not really surprising that I spent my first summer after high school working for Zoo New England where I assisted the senior keeper of the black bear exhibit as needed in addition to being responsible for the care of four, four-month old baby goats.

My next work experience was as an employee and volunteer at the New England Aquarium. As a volunteer, I was responsible for educating visitors about the animals at the Edge of the Sea exhibit, a hands-on touch tank in which visitors could pick up and touch sea urchins, sea stars, hermit crabs, and horseshoe crabs.

Before starting Amanda’s Pet Care, my most recent work experience was as a dog walker and pet sitter for Boston Pet Sitters. It was my time with BPS that made me realize that the pets corner of the animal kingdom was where I belonged. I was committed to providing the absolute best service for the pets in my care and I loved every minute of it. Whether it was 100 degrees outside, 40 below with the wind chill, raining or even snowing, I was always there for them because I truly believed that I was making a difference in their lives.

In 2004, I relocated to Arlington, VA and after a few interviews and job offers from some of the established pet care companies in the area, I realized that none of them seemed to provide the high level of care that I believed a pet care provider should. And that is how Amanda’s Pet Care was born.
